Saudi Arabia to make an offer for Real Madrid veteran midfielder in the coming days – report

Real Madrid have an agenda against the winter transfer market. Los Blancos prefer to maintain faith in their existing squad all the way through the season, and barring exceptional circumstances, are not involved in any transfers in January.

Florentino Perez and Co. decided to stick with their stance this season once again, despite facing an acute shortage of personnel in central defence. In the same way, they have also not allowed any players to leave the club as the manager maintains faith in every member of the dressing room.

The Croatian question

Of all of the players at Real Madrid, Luka Modric’s future is perhaps the most clear beyond this season. Already 38 years of age, the veteran midfielder is expected to leave the club come June marking the end of an era.

However, he is clearly dissatisfied with his role in the team even this season. He feels that the promises that had been made during the time of his renewal are not being made, and not being called off the bench in the team’s last two games has only fuelled his desire to leave.

According to reports from Sergio Santos (h/t Madrid Xtra), Saudi Arabia are expected to make an offer for him in the coming days as part of their routine attempt. They continue to monitor his situation and will look to coerce him into a switch mid-way through the season.

However, an exit from Real Madrid might be difficult to think about for Modric who is invested in the manager’s plans. As has been the case from the beginning of the season, he is determined to turn his situation around.

Ancelotti’s uncertain stance

Speaking to the media after Real Madrid’s comeback win over Las Palmas, Carlo Ancelotti was asked about his decision to not field Luka Modric even when the game situation demanded his magic.

“Modric hasn’t warmed up because…. (he takes a few seconds to think) because I understand that Luka doesn’t warm up, I don’t take him out to warm up if I’m not sure he’s going to come on.”

“We have to respect him in that sense. He’s fine, he’ll be ready for the next game,” he added, in what was a confusing reply.

Needless to say, there is something wrong in the Spanish capital surrounding the veteran’s situation and the relative lack of minutes.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
