Real Madrid host Sevilla on Sunday, February 25 and speaking ahead of the game, the Andalusian outfit’s goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has mentioned that although this will be a difficult contest for his side, they do stand a chance to beat the record European champions at Santiago Bernabeu.

The stopper mentioned that although Real Madrid are a tough team, the fact that they have held them once this season is a reason enough for them to be positive about this fixture.

“They are a tough team, but I think we showed in the home game, even though we had a different coach, what we can do against them,” Nyland told MARCA.

“They are a tough team, they have their qualities, but so do we, so we must continue playing as we are doing, being defensively solid.”

The goalkeeper added that Sevilla have quality attackers and their recent win over Atletico Madrid can be the catalyst to their approach against Real.

“We have quality in our attacking game to be able to score as well, as we showed against Atletico at home, which was perhaps one of the best games we played this season.

“We can do it and even more so because of the confidence we must have now, so I think we can look forward to the Bernabeu game,” he said.

Furthermore, upon asking if Sevilla can, in fact, beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, he said, “Yes, of course.”

The 33-year-old was asked to pick one player from the current Real Madrid roster who he thinks is the best. He mentioned that the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham are quality players but a certain Brahim Diaz needs a special mention too.

“It is difficult to decide because they have many good players, but obviously they have a player with the quality of Vinicius, who can do a lot alone, not only is he a guy who can score, he runs a lot and is dangerous with the ball,” he said.

“He has been improving his finishing on goal. And Bellingham has been excellent this season. Now it seems like he is injured against us, but they have a very good squad.

“I think Brahim Díaz has been very good this season, so now the whole team, no matter who they play, are incredible because it is one of the best teams in Spain.

“The players I have mentioned are the best at the moment and, as I said, the team, Real Madrid, is also excellent,” he added.

Nyland’s thoughts on Lunin

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has made the first team spot his own and when asked about the Ukrainian, the Sevilla stopper said that his counterpart has been working hard this season.

“I think he did very well at the beginning of the season when Courtois was injured. I think maybe he was waiting for the opportunity to play and then they signed Kepa, who did very well at first, but I can compare myself to his situation because it seemed like he didn’t make much noise by not playing.

“He just kept working and then when he got the opportunity again, he took it. When there were many games after Christmas, also in the Cup, he played very well in the decisive moments, which made him probably number one at the moment.

“He has been working very hard. He’s not thinking too much about the situation. I think about who is number one, who is number two and now it seems like he has taken advantage of the opportunity and is playing very well at the moment,” he explained.

Lastly, he also talked about Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid, explaining that his addition will be very dangerous for every other team.

“Yes, it’s one reason they call them the Galacticos. They attract the best players so that they can always improve, so there are good players in the team and the best players want to go to Real Madrid.

“Obviously, we know Mbappe’s quality, so it will be a very dangerous team,” he added.

Speaking in an interview with Vamos (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has acknowledged that Real Madrid ace Jude Bellingham is the No. 1 footballer in the world currently.

Bellingham has enjoyed a spectacular debut season at Real Madrid and has been one of their chief protagonists as the Merengues won the La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup titles and made it to the UCL finals.

Even though his form has somewhat dipped in the latter stages of the season, the England international remains integral to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and one of Los Blancos’ most important players.

And Spain manager Luis de la Fuente expressed his admiration for Bellingham, saying:

“He is a player who is doing particularly well. It’s a subjective view, but I like Bellingham’s style a lot, I like that type of player, powerful….”

When asked if Bellingham is the No. 1 player in the world at the moment, De la Fuente replied in the affirmative, as he said: “I think so.”

Bellingham has played 40 times in all competitions for Real Madrid this season, racking up a total of 23 goals and 12 assists in the process.

The 20-year-old’s exploits with Los Blancos in his debut campaign have put him in contention for the Ballon d’Or this year.

A strong performance in the finals of the UEFA Champions League next month and a solid run with England at the UEFA Euro 2024 could further his chances of winning the Golden Ball, although his teammate Vinicius Jr. is also an equally strong contender.
