Real Madrid were able to give Toni Kroos a hero’s send-off by lifting a record 15th UEFA Champions League title in his final game for the club.

Despite only playing together for one season, Toni Kroos and Jude Bellingham formed a strong connection, proving invaluable for Real Madrid in midfield.

Now, entering the Euro 2024, both players will be representing their respective national teams in a bid to showcase their talents on the international stage.

Kroos gushes over Bellingham

Recognising Bellingham’s exceptional talents as a remarkably versatile midfielder with an unparalleled eye for goal, Kroos asserted that the Englishman will be one of the key figures for England in the Euro this summer.

“There aren’t many players like Bellingham, and it’s a compliment to him because so many of England’s hopes rest on his shoulders,” Kroos remarked (h/t RM4 Arab).

Moreover, the German midfielder lauded Bellingham’s physical qualities as well as his mental fortitude.

“Jude Bellingham is a strong, physical person who gives everything he has and is also a player who can handle pressure. He has the right personality,” Kroos praised.

Considering Bellingham managed to show up in several high-profile games for Real Madrid and carried himself like a veteran at such a young age, Kroos’ remarks hold true.

Now, with all eyes on the Euro, Bellingham will be tasked with replicating his successful domestic season on the international stage.

When asked if England have title chances thanks to Bellingham, Kroos replied that he hopes to see his former teammate emerge as a decisive player for the Three Lions.

“He seems to be the right person. He can do his best. I hope he will be a decisive player in the England national team,” Kroos said.

Real Madrid are in active negotiations with LOSC Lille for the transfer of Leny Yoro. After weeks of impasse, the club appear to have made some ground in the race to sign the Frenchman.

However, should the Yoro deal fall through in the coming weeks, Real Madrid have identified Lazio’s Mario Gila as the ideal alternative.

Formerly of RM Castilla, Gila currently plies his trade for Lazio and has emerged as a key defensive lynchpin for the Italian outfit, impressing onlookers with his technique and discipline.

Mario Gila picks up fresh injury

However, in a major development, it appears Mario Gila has picked up a fresh injury during training, reports Diario AS.

In the pre-season camp at Auronzo di Cadore, Gila appears to have fractured his left foot and could be out for several weeks.

Lazio confirmed the defender’s injury, stating, “Mario Gila underwent clinical and instrumental examinations which revealed a fracture of the phalanx of the big toe of his left foot, suffered during training.”

Gila has started taking the appropriate treatment and the extent of his injury will be known soon. However, as things stand, the defender could be out for at least the next few weeks.

What does this mean for Real Madrid?

Mario Gila’s fresh injury setback is sure to dwindle any hopes of a potential return to Real Madrid this summer.

In any case, Gila’s chances of returning to Santiago Bernabeu were slim given that Real Madrid have finally made some ground in the deal to sign top defensive target Leny Yoro.

Los Blancos, though, would have liked having someone like Gila available as an alternative, especially with LOSC Lille still demanding a fortune for the Frenchman.

Unfortunately, that might not be an option anymore, no thanks to Gila’s injury. The club, though, will keep a close eye on the Spaniard’s injury situation, knowing he could return to fitness before the end of the summer break.
