La Liga went into the mid-season Christmas break over a week ago, providing players with much-needed relief after a relentless schedule.

Real Madrid, burdened by a plethora of injuries, would have certainly welcomed the break as it is allowing time for the ones on the sidelines to recover and make themselves available at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal.

The entire squad has been given a holiday until Friday which is when Ancelotti will restart training sessions in preparation for the game against RCD Mallorca in early 2024.

Three players return early to training

Even though the players are still officially on vacation, as many as three Real Madrid stars have cut short their holiday to return to training at the club’s facility.

Indeed, as per Sergio Quirante of DAZN, Lucas Vazquez, Andriy Lunin, and Arda Guler are all back at the Valdebebas training ground having shortened their vacation to resume training.

All three players have a lot at stake in the coming matches. For Guler, the 18-year-old is yet to make his debut for Real Madrid, even though he has been at the club for six months now.

Injuries have hampered the Turkish prodigy, but a debut is expected to come in the next couple of weeks. As such, it does not come as a surprise to see him start working again so that he can be ready for when his chance arrives.

Meanwhile, both Vazquez and Lunin, who have been playing regularly in recent games, could lose their places in the starting XI.

After all, Kepa Arrizabalaga has recovered full fitness, and Dani Carvajal is also expected to return from injury against Mallorca.

So, it is good to see Vazquez and Lunin to take the initiative and return to training before the scheduled restart, displaying their intent to keep fighting for a starting berth.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
