Three Real Madrid stars unhappy with Carlo Ancelotti this season – report

Carlo Ancelotti’s second stint at Real Madrid has been a successful one, with trophies being won and there being great harmony among the players in the dressing room.

Despite facing adversities of various kinds, Los Blancos have shown the mental fortitude to come out on top, as has been the case this season when they have found ways to keep winning in spite of all the injury problems.

But, as it happens, not everyone is happy with their roles in the squad this season, with The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai stating that several players are frustrated with the situation, highlighting three stars in particular.

Luka Modric

The situation of Luka Modric has constantly made the headlines as he has been demoted to a squad player role this season, with Ancelotti opting to put his faith in the younger generation.

Sources close to the player say that the player was promised he would feature more regularly when deciding to renew for another year. The Croatian understands the direction that the coach is headed in but feels that he can still contribute more and is unhappy about the lack of minutes.

Ancelotti has been honest and upfront with the midfielder and the relationship between them remains good. But that does not change the fact that he is not pleased with the reduced role.

Arda Guler

Another Real Madrid player upset with his lack of action is teenage prodigy Arda Guler, who joined the club only last summer. Injuries kept him out for the first six months of the season, with the 19-year-old only making his debut in January 2024.

Since then, though, Guler has played only 92 minutes of football in all competitions and is far from happy with the situation. The 19-year-old was seen expressing his frustration by throwing a training bib during the game against Almeria, something that did not sit well with the staff.

The situation is far from ideal as the talented youngster wishes to play more and it could lead to a summer departure, possibly on loan.

Nacho Fernandez

Unlike the aforementioned two players, Nacho Fernandez has seen regular minutes this season, mostly thanks to the ACL injuries suffered by Eder Militao and David Alaba. Compared to last season, the veteran has played more this term and has even been made club captain.

But as per the report, his relationship with Ancelotti has strained this season. The defender is understood to have been left disappointed by the manager’s decision to take him off in recent games when things have not been going the team’s way.

Nacho was taken off against Almeria when Madrid were 2-0 down at half-time and was also withdrawn against Sevilla, with his replacement Modric scoring the winner. The captain does not feel the manager’s confidence even though Ancelotti has spoken highly of him.

Real Madrid convinced with 21-year-old loanee’s performances, will count on him next season

Real Madrid are eager to enhance their options in central defense after deciding to not sign any defenders in the recent January transfer window.

Several players are on the club’s radar, with Lille’s promising center-back Leny Yoro most notably high on the club’s wishlist.

However, the Merengues are not turning a blind eye to their homegrown academy gems, as Rafa Marin is making a strong case for himself to join the first team dynamics next summer.

Rafa Marin strengthens his case

The 21-year-old is presently on loan at Alaves and is showcasing solid performances in the heart of defense, with Real Madrid reported to count on him next season.

Now, AS have reported that the reason for the club’s trust in Marin is his upsurge in performances at Alaves. And if Nacho Fernandez leaves, Marin will serve as the fourth central defender in the squad.

A testament to his worth to Alaves is the fact that Marin has not been benched since mid-November, demonstrating his importance in coach Luis Garcia Plaza’s defense.

With 2,282 total minutes played, he ranks as the fourth-highest on the team with the most minutes.

Against Atletico Madrid recently, Rafa Marin enjoyed a stellar outing. In addition to making 15 recoveries and 9 interceptions, he took part in 24 defensive actions. Along with winning two ground and four air duels, he only committed one foul.

An important summer for Marin

Not only is Rafa Marín returning to Real Madrid, but he is also going to represent Spain in the Olympics in Paris.

Marin was included in five of the six matches during the Euro Under-21 qualifiers because coach Santi Denia of Spain’s under-21 team greatly values his presence and height (1.91 meters).

Marin has a bright future ahead of him if all goes according to plan. His season with Alaves is sure to serve as a stepping stone for his integration into the Real Madrid first team.
