Toni Kroos talks Real Madrid injuries, La Liga, Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois: “He is on a good path”

Real Madrid, despite being able to muster up results and losing only one game through the first half of the season, were in far from their best form. Individual efforts from Jude Bellingham kept the team afloat, with winners against Almeria, Celta Vigo, and Jude Bellingham in the opening three weeks.

However, cut to now, Real Madrid have evidently found their flow. They battered Barcelona 4-1 in the Spanish Super Cup final, and also dominated Girona 4-0 this weekend. One of the more common grounds between all these results has been Carlo Ancelotti finding the perfect midfield combination led by none other than Toni Kroos.

The German has been unplayable for most of the recent months, and is among the best midfielders in La Liga and Europe on form.

He spoke on leading La Liga right now, saying, “Only we will decide who will be the champion. If we do not win it, it’s our own fault.”

Kroos has also been one of the only three players in the current Real Madrid squad that has not picked up injuries this season, with the rest of the squad in far from their best fitness.

“Thank god I’m one of the players who are not injured. It’s really extreme this year. It’s mostly really long injuries,” the World Cup winner said.

Kroos was then followed up with a question about Eder Militao, who picked up an ACL injury on the first matchday of the season. David Alaba and Thibaut Courtois also tore their ACL but the Brazilian seems to be the first one on his way back to the pitch.

“From what I have seen, Militao is on a really good path. I think we will see Militao this season.”

However, as far as Courtois is concerned, Kroos was unsure about the goalkeeper’s situation.

“I don’t know, I am not able to predict return schedule for a goalkeeper as it is different,” he concluded.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
