Arda Guler has been a star in the ongoing Euro 2024, playing a key role in all of Turkey’s matches so far.

Guler’s two goal involvements have played a key role in helping Turkey reach the quarterfinal stage, where they will be up against the Netherlands.

In light of his Guler’s superb performances, his national teammate and fellow young prospect Emre Uzun has even hailed him as a ‘role model’.

Emre Uzun’s appreciation for Guler

Despite being only 19 years old, Guler is already looked up to as a role model by many in Turkey, one of whom happens to be Antalyaspor youngster Emre Uzun.

Currently a part of the Turkey Under-19 national team setup who will soon begin their journey at the UEFA U19 European Championships, \Uzun has lavished praise on Guler.

“I look up to Arda Güler. My role model is Güler,” said Uzun (h/t Sporx).

“As a whole team, we take our friend as an example, we take Hakan Çalhanoğlu as an example. We are all trying to learn something from all of them.

“Arda Güler is our close friend. We played together here and we want to be like him. Little by little we will also step into Europe,” he added.

Interestingly, Uzun is only a few months younger than Guler, but his appreciation for his teammate is an indicator of the Real Madrid star’s growing influence in Turkey.

Uzun, after all, is not the only one to heap praise on Arda Guler in recent months. The entire Turkish football fraternity is quite excited about his prospects going forward.

Can Guler make a mark at Real Madrid next season?

Guler’s performances in the ongoing Euro 2024 are sure to boost his chances of making an impact for Real Madrid in the season ahead.

It must be remembered that the Turkish starlet was one of Real Madrid’s brightest points during the second half of last season.

Moreover, Carlo Ancelotti appears to have lost faith in Brahim Diaz. The Spaniard has been linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu this summer, although the player has no desire to leave the club.

Keeping all these factors in mind, one would expect Guler to earn a more elevated role in the first-team next season. Whether or not the youngster takes full advantage of his opportunities remains to be seen.

Real Madrid are in active negotiations with LOSC Lille for the transfer of Leny Yoro. After weeks of impasse, the club appear to have made some ground in the race to sign the Frenchman.

However, should the Yoro deal fall through in the coming weeks, Real Madrid have identified Lazio’s Mario Gila as the ideal alternative.

Formerly of RM Castilla, Gila currently plies his trade for Lazio and has emerged as a key defensive lynchpin for the Italian outfit, impressing onlookers with his technique and discipline.

Mario Gila picks up fresh injury

However, in a major development, it appears Mario Gila has picked up a fresh injury during training, reports Diario AS.

In the pre-season camp at Auronzo di Cadore, Gila appears to have fractured his left foot and could be out for several weeks.

Lazio confirmed the defender’s injury, stating, “Mario Gila underwent clinical and instrumental examinations which revealed a fracture of the phalanx of the big toe of his left foot, suffered during training.”

Gila has started taking the appropriate treatment and the extent of his injury will be known soon. However, as things stand, the defender could be out for at least the next few weeks.

What does this mean for Real Madrid?

Mario Gila’s fresh injury setback is sure to dwindle any hopes of a potential return to Real Madrid this summer.

In any case, Gila’s chances of returning to Santiago Bernabeu were slim given that Real Madrid have finally made some ground in the deal to sign top defensive target Leny Yoro.

Los Blancos, though, would have liked having someone like Gila available as an alternative, especially with LOSC Lille still demanding a fortune for the Frenchman.

Unfortunately, that might not be an option anymore, no thanks to Gila’s injury. The club, though, will keep a close eye on the Spaniard’s injury situation, knowing he could return to fitness before the end of the summer break.
