Video: Mbappe reacts to Real Madrid – Bayern Munich question following UCL elimination

After Paris Saint-Germain’s exit from the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund, forward Kylian Mbappe found himself under a flood of questions from the media.

As he made his way towards the exit, one journalist could not resist asking about his future plans, especially given the strong rumours linking him to a move to Real Madrid.

The journalist specifically inquired whether he would support Real Madrid in their upcoming semi-final match against Bayern Munich.

Mbappe’s response to the question was notably unconcerned, likely a reflection of his frustration after PSG’s recent defeat.

His lack of enthusiasm was understandable, given that he had just experienced the sting of elimination as PSG once again failed in challenging for the UCL glory.

Instead of dwelling on the possible move to Real Madrid or speculating about their upcoming match, Mbappe seemed more focused on processing the immediate disappointment of his own team’s loss.

Last UCL game for PSG

Speaking after the game, the French international went on to say that yesterday’s match was his last Champions League game for PSG, although he did not comment on his future.

“My last Champions League match with PSG? This season, for sure,” he said as quoted by SPORT.

Now, it remains uncertain whether he will make a statement about his future or not. Meanwhile, Real Madrid continue to stay focused on their Champions League campaign.

They are no more concerned with a potential showdown against Mbappe in the final, as many had been predicting.

Their attention is centred on progressing through the tournament and possibly securing another title.

This mindset allows them to stay in the present moment and concentrate on their journey in the competition, rather than getting ahead of themselves with predictions about future matchups.

Real Madrid defender clarifies social media post after exclusion from Spain Euro squad

With the Spanish domestic season officially complete, all attention in Spain is on the upcoming European Championships.

Transcending the divide of clubs, Luis de la Fuente’s men will head to Germany next month, hoping to better their semifinal finish four years ago.

A big development on that front came earlier today when the RFEF officially announced the manager’s provisional squad for the event.

Recently crowned Spanish champions, Real Madrid, had only three representatives in the squad – Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez and Joselu. Lucas Vazquez, notably, did not earn a call-up.

Vazquez sends a message

With 11 goal contributions in 37 games this season, it is almost astounding that Vazquez was overlooked by the Spanish management. The development, needless to say, came as a surprise to the player as well.

Vazquez soon posted laughing emojis on his official X account, seemingly mocking the coach’s decision to exclude him. He did, however, delete it soon after.

When asked about the tweet, the right-back denied it having anything to do with the Euro selection, saying,

“It had nothing to do with it, I give maximum support to the National Team. In the end, it is the coach who makes the decisions, we must respect him,” he said via COPE.

Set to stay

The 32-year-old right-back’s current contract with Real Madrid runs out this summer, and there has been no clear acceleration of talks between the parties to confirm an extension.

As revealed earlier this month, however, both parties are clear on their intent to continue working together for next season.

Despite his age, Vazquez has proven to be a more than worthy backup for Dani Carvajal and will continue the role in 2024-25.

The club’s hunt for a new young right-back and a long-term replacement, is this likely to be postponed to next summer.
