After the exodus earlier this summer, Real Madrid do not have much deadwood remaining in their squad. Almost every player in the team has a definitive role under Carlo Ancelotti, either as a starter or a backup option.

Reinier and Alvaro Odriozola are perhaps the only two players in the squad who do not fit into the manager’s plans. Unsurprisingly, both players are exit-linked. AS provides an update on the latter’s situation.

Odriozola is adamant on his destination

According to the Spanish publication, the Real Madrid defender is still waiting to hear from Real Sociedad and engineer a return to his former club. He prioritises a move back to his boyhood club and has thus pushed away other proposals on his table.

With deadline day less only a few days away, Odriozola’s situation is now entering risky territory.

After all, La Real has yet to respond or make a tangible move towards completing his acquisition.

The Basque side have been active in the ongoing summer transfer window and have already signed four players.

The club director, Roberto Olabe, likes Odriozola as a new right-back but it is clear that there are reservations over the Real Madrid star with the rest of the administration.

Odriozola has reached an agreement

The report adds that the defender already reached an agreement with Real Sociedad about the terms of his return.

However, there is still no agreement between La Real and Los Blancos, nor any attempt to reach such an arrangement.

The coming days will thus be critical for Odriozola. The 27-year-old knows that he will have no minutes at Real Madrid, and with La Real yet to reply, he could be forced to explore other avenues.

The option of Saudi Arabia is not ruled out, but Odriozola could well stay for the season and see his contract out as well.

Real Madrid will be looking to pick up their fifth win of the 2026/27 La Liga season when they take on Elche CF at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero later tonight.

With 12 points from five games, Los Blancos are currently second in the league table, three points below leaders FC Barcelona.

As such, the Spanish capital club will be eager to get the win and close the gap to the top.

Guler starts, Bellingham rested

Ahead of kickoff, Real Madrid have announced the starting lineup that will take the field against Elche, with Jose Mourinho making some important changes.

For starters, Arda Guler is back in the lineup after appearing as a substitute in the win over Rayo Vallecano.

Interestingly, however, he starts in the attacking midfield role, with Mourinho opting to rest Jude Bellingham, who has started all of Real Madrid’s games so far.

That also means that Yan Diomande retains his place in the team, starting for a second time in a row on the right wing. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. continue in their respective positions in attack.

Another notable change sees Aurelien Tchouameni make his first start of the season after recovering from injury and making two appearances off the bench.

He replaces Bernardo Silva as Federico Valverde’s partner in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marc Cucurella come in as full-backs, while Ibrahima Konate and Dean Huijsen slot in at centre-back in front of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
