Jude Bellingham’s transfer to Real Madrid has become even more costly due to a series of achievements, as reported by SPORT BILD (via Mundo Deportivo). 

Initially, the deal was worth €103 million, but it has now risen to €113 million following the success of last season, including Real Madrid’s triumphs in La Liga and the Champions League.

In today’s football world, transfer fees are rarely straightforward. The initial amount a club pays for a player can increase significantly over time due to various clauses in the contract. 

These clauses, commonly referred to as add-ons, are tied to a player’s performance or the team’s achievements. 

Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham’s former club, are still benefiting from these add-ons, just as they did from previous transfers such as Ousmane Dembele and Erling Haaland. 

Bellingham’s fee could increase

For Real Madrid, the initial transfer fee of €103 million for Bellingham was significant, but it was only the beginning. 

Following the club’s successes in La Liga and the Champions League last season, an extra €10 million has already been added to the total amount they owe Dortmund. 

This figure could increase even further if Bellingham continues to achieve great things, such as winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or.

These performance-based clauses, though expensive, are designed to be mutually beneficial. They allow the buying club, in this case, Real Madrid, to secure the player immediately without needing to meet the highest potential fee all at once. 

Instead, they agree to pay extra if certain milestones are reached. For the club, this is often seen as a positive outcome because it means that the player is performing exceptionally well and contributing to the team’s success on the pitch.

For Borussia Dortmund, this arrangement has proven to be quite profitable over the years. It is clear that, while the initial payment for a player may seem high, these types of deals often lead to even larger financial rewards for the selling club over time.
