Real Madrid’s name has clashed with Manchester City multiple times this week, particularly due to presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme.

Looking to take on Florentino Perez in the upcoming presidential elections, Riquelme has tried to entice supporters by promising to bring in both Rodri and Erling Haaland, even potentially landing in legal trouble in the process.

Real Madrid as an entity, though, have set sights on a completely different Man City player in the form of Josko Gvardiol.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid see Gvardiol as the ideal signing at centre-back heading into the new season.

It must be noted that Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Ibrahima Konate. But they want to sign at least one more centre-back and that is where Gvardiol comes into the fray.

The Croatian international has ample experience at the highest level, is young and most importantly, he is capable of operating both as a centre-back and a left-back. This makes him an exciting option for Los Blancos.

Gvardiol won’t be an easy signing

However, Romano adds that acquiring the services of Gvardiol won’t be a walk in the park.

Although the departure of Pep Guardiola may lead to a mass exodus of sorts, Gvardiol still has two years left on his contract at the Etihad.

Not to mention, the Premier League giants are determined to keep hold of the former RB Leipzig starlet and handing him a new deal, knowing he is vital to the club’s defensive setup.

Keeping that in mind, Real Madrid may have to fork out a fortune in order to get Man City in the negotiation table. Unfortunately, that appears to be a difficult proposition as of now.

Tough. No way we will sell him.

As for Haaland? Why we he want to play in a second class league like La Liga?

Real Madrid turn the Santiago Bernabeu into a fortress under Jose Mourinho

Real Madrid still have a long way to go before they are able to pose themselves as the most feared team in Europe.

However, the club have made some important strides under Jose Mourinho this season and one of the more promising aspects has been the team’s dominance at home.

When Mourinho returned to Madrid, one of his priorities was to transform Santiago Bernabeu into a fortress once again and he has done exactly that.

Real Madrid’s dominance at home

As reported by AS, Real Madrid boast a perfect home record of six wins from six, worth a full 18 points across five league games and one Champions League night.

Two of those were hard-fought, narrow victories over Inter (2-1) and Villarreal (1-0), but the other four were emphatic thrashings, with Real Sociedad (4-1), Malaga (4-0), Rayo Vallecano (4-1) and Sevilla (4-1) all dispatched.

Madrid’s only two defeats of the season have both come on the road, at Betis and Atletico, underlining just how different a proposition they are in their own backyard.

A goalscoring machine on home soil

Real Madrid are particularly ruthless when it comes to games at home, almost comparable to Barcelona’s own scoring dominance this season.

Madrid have racked up 19 goals at the Bernabeu, an average of 3.17 per game. The contrast with last season is stark.

Under Xabi Alonso, the team managed just 11 goals in their first six home matches, and while they also won all six, four of those came by a single goal.

For Mourinho personally, tonight’s Leipzig game also carries a milestone, as he takes charge of his 95th match at the Bernabeu, where he boasts a remarkable 80 wins and an 85% success rate.

It is, therefore, safe to say that the fortress is back, and it is proving a fearsome place to visit. Whether or not Leipzig, who have already been warned by Toni Kroos, fall victim to this dominance this evening remains to be seen.
