Less than a week remains before the champions of Europe return to training at the Valdebebas. As the defending champions of both La Liga and the UCL, there will be pressure on the dressing room heading into the new season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, however, will see significant changes ahead of the new campaign. Players like Toni Kroos and Nacho Fernandez have left the club while others, including Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, are set to arrive.

The likes of Andriy Lunin and Dani Ceballos fall into a third category with an uncertain future, and journalist Rodra P provides an update on the same.

Interest from the Premier League

According to the Spanish journalist, Arsenal are interested in signing Lunin this summer. Mikel Arteta’s side are looking for a new goalkeeper and the 25-year-old is one of the names on their list.

With Thibaut Courtois injured for most of the previous season, Lunin stepped up and eventually established himself as a mainstay under Ancelotti in Madrid.

His consistency earned him recognition from across the globe and placed him as one of the best in the business.

For the 2024-25 season, however, it is clear that the Ukrainian star will not enjoy as much prominence with Courtois back in the team. A departure, thus, has emerged as a serious possibility.

Lunin’s commitment

Despite the interest from other clubs, the journalist further reports that Lunin has assured Real Madrid that he will be available on 15th July, the first day of pre-season. In fact, the player is eager to start working ahead of schedule.

There is, however, doubt over his future considering that he is yet to respond to Real Madrid’s renewal proposal that was sent at the end of last season which would extend his contract until 2029.

Should Lunin leave, Real Madrid remains confident as they see Kepa Arrizabalaga as a decent option to fill the void provided he arrives on a free transfer. All eyes, thus, are on the Ukrainian star’s camp in anticipation of his final decision.

Real Madrid are in active negotiations with LOSC Lille for the transfer of Leny Yoro. After weeks of impasse, the club appear to have made some ground in the race to sign the Frenchman.

However, should the Yoro deal fall through in the coming weeks, Real Madrid have identified Lazio’s Mario Gila as the ideal alternative.

Formerly of RM Castilla, Gila currently plies his trade for Lazio and has emerged as a key defensive lynchpin for the Italian outfit, impressing onlookers with his technique and discipline.

Mario Gila picks up fresh injury

However, in a major development, it appears Mario Gila has picked up a fresh injury during training, reports Diario AS.

In the pre-season camp at Auronzo di Cadore, Gila appears to have fractured his left foot and could be out for several weeks.

Lazio confirmed the defender’s injury, stating, “Mario Gila underwent clinical and instrumental examinations which revealed a fracture of the phalanx of the big toe of his left foot, suffered during training.”

Gila has started taking the appropriate treatment and the extent of his injury will be known soon. However, as things stand, the defender could be out for at least the next few weeks.

What does this mean for Real Madrid?

Mario Gila’s fresh injury setback is sure to dwindle any hopes of a potential return to Real Madrid this summer.

In any case, Gila’s chances of returning to Santiago Bernabeu were slim given that Real Madrid have finally made some ground in the deal to sign top defensive target Leny Yoro.

Los Blancos, though, would have liked having someone like Gila available as an alternative, especially with LOSC Lille still demanding a fortune for the Frenchman.

Unfortunately, that might not be an option anymore, no thanks to Gila’s injury. The club, though, will keep a close eye on the Spaniard’s injury situation, knowing he could return to fitness before the end of the summer break.
