Carvajal, Camavinga react after Barcelona 0-4 Real Madrid: “It’s always a beautiful thing”

A Karim Benzema hat-trick and a goal from Vinicius Jr guided Real Madrid to a 4-0 win over Barcelona on Wednesday night. It was the Merengues’ first win over Xavi’s side after three games and earned them a place in the Copa del Rey final.
The first half was well balanced with the Catalans even creating the better chances. However, Vinicius’ goal just before half-time put pressure on the home team and triggered a chain reaction that resulted in their collapse.
Eduardo Camavinga was amongst the first to react after his team’s stunning performance at Camp Nou and opened with a statement about the highlights of the team’s display, saying:
“We’re very happy to have won at Camp Nou. We had to give it everything and we managed to win 4-0. The most important thing was the team’s mentality. We work together and when we score one or two goals we don’t stop. Plus, we didn’t concede any goals. This is good for the future.”
The French prodigy then addressed the topic of him playing out of position as the left-back against Barcelona and what was expected of him by Ancelotti.
“We hadn’t won here for some time and we’re delighted. When I’m on the pitch I have to give everything to the team. It’s not my position but I have to give it all for the club and to thank the coach for his faith in me.”
Dani Carvajal started the game and completed the 90 minutes with a strong defensive performance. The right-back pointed out that Real Madrid were clearly the superior side on the night and what separated them from the hosts.
“We believed that we were coming to win and that we only had a slight disadvantage. We knew it was possible and we believed in the victory. We were the better side and deserved to win.
“The gaffer played a more attacking game with Benzema, Vini Jr, Rodrygo and Modric further forward. We created chances and took advantage of the spaces left by the opposition.”
Los Blancos needed just two goals to advance to the Copa del Rey final on the night but hammered four past the Blaugrana in ruthless fashion. Carvajal labelled the win ‘beautiful’ and spoke on the objectives ahead.
“I’d never won here by this margin. It’s always a beautiful thing to beat our biggest rivals in a Copa del Rey semi-final. We head home happy but there’s still work to be done and now we have to turn our attention to Villarreal in La Liga.”
The Spanish international praised Karim Benzema for his match-defining hat trick and much-awaited return to form saying,
“His numbers say it all. He was hugely important for us again and we’re thrilled to have him in this vein of form at this stage of the season because he can give us lots to smile about.”
Finally, Carvajal took a moment to thank the millions of fans across the globe for rooting for his side and assured them of a competitive display in the final.
“Thank you to the fans for your support. We’ve not stopped receiving positive messages since the first leg. We’ll try and beat Osasuna and bring you another title.”

Real Madrid winger has two future destinations on table for next season

Real Madrid set out on a mission to change the minds of Dani Ceballos, Marco Asensio and Nacho Fernandez earlier this week. After all, all three players were contemplating a departure from the club for a gross lack of minutes.
Los Blancos’ latest approach seems to have impacted Ceballos’ position in a positive fashion. However, Fabrizio Romano reveals that it has not changed Marco Asensio’s mind.
According to the Italian journalist, the Spaniard will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season as a free agent.
Of the numerous options on his table, he sees Aston Villa and PSG to be the best bets. In fact, Villa have already submitted their opening bid for the player as revealed by Fabrizio Romano once again.
After a dramatic final day of action in the Premier League, Aston Villa finished in the European spots and will participate in the UEFA Conference League next season. While a move to the English club would be a steep step down, it will see Asensio receive regular playing time.
Paris-Saint Germain, on that front, appears the more probable destination. The French club are close to losing both Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr ahead of the new season, and Asensio would thus fit in as a starting quality winger. Moreover, they offer Champions League football.
The Spaniard’s role at Real Madrid this season has not been minor by any means considering his contributions. In 30 La Liga appearances, the 27-year-old has scored nine goals and provided six assists in addition to creating nine big chances and averaging 1.4 key passes per game.
However, that does not satisfy the winger who wishes to be a starter week in and week out. His departure in June appears to be now written in stone, and the club should feel hard done to not make a penny of his move.
Many in Los Blancos’ administration see Brahim Diaz as a direct replacement for the Spanish international if he leaves. Needless to say, the AC Milan star’s future will closely depend on Asensio’s situation.
