Former Real Madrid boss reminds critics of Ancelotti’s legacy – ‘Example of football knowledge’
As rumours continued to swirl about Carlo Ancelotti’s exit from Real Madrid in the past, many respected voices in football stepped forward to share their thoughts.
The latest to do so is Vicente del Bosque, a former coach of both Spain and Real Madrid, who spoke honestly about Ancelotti’s legacy and the likely arrival of Xabi Alonso at the helm.
Del Bosque began by highlighting just how impressive Ancelotti’s time at Madrid has been.
“We can talk about several things, first of all, Carlo Ancelotti’s career, which has been magnificent; he’s had a fantastic run, and it’s going to be difficult for everyone who comes,” he began saying.
When asked about Xabi Alonso possibly taking over, Del Bosque did not seem surprised. He recalled his time coaching Alonso and praised both him and Sergio Busquets for their strength in midfield during Spain’s golden years.
“Well, our strength was there in the midfield, between him and Busquets, who were heavily criticised, but in the end, they were very important men for us,” he said.
The qualities that make a successful Madrid coach
Del Bosque also spoke about what it takes to thrive at a club like Real Madrid. “Leading a group well brings dignity to what Ancelotti has done,” he noted.
According to him, managing egos and maintaining unity in the dressing room is just as important as tactics. “Ancelotti has shown both football knowledge and the ability to keep a balanced locker room.”
On the club’s treatment of Ancelotti, Del Bosque chose not to criticise or praise too strongly, simply stating,
“I don’t have any opinion on that. I think he’s being exemplary in all his responses.” This shows his respect for how Ancelotti has handled the situation with calm and professionalism.
When comparing club management to leading a national team, Del Bosque explained that working with a club day in and day out often leads to more friction. Still, in both roles, what matters most is credibility.
“Normally, on a day-to-day basis, there’s more friction with players on a team and less so on the national team. Ultimately, it’s about a coach being credible, becoming credible to his players, and I think that’s what drives a locker room,” he concluded.

In what will come as a pleasing development for fans, Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo could make a comeback from his injury earlier than expected.
The 25-year-old Brazilian international has been out of action since March after suffering an ACL injury during a La Liga game against Getafe.
Due to the complete rupture of the ACL, coupled with associated meniscus damage, it was suggested that the attacker was staring at a lengthy time out on the sidelines and might not return until 2027.
In fact, the forward’s father, Eric Goes, recently stated in an interview that the Real Madrid ace could be back in February next year, just before the business end of the campaign.
Rodrygo could be back in December
However, as per the update from Romano, Rodrygo’s comeback could happen well before that expected date.
Indeed, if things continue to progress at the current rate, the 25-year-old attacker might return to action in December or by January 2027 at the latest.
This will come as a welcome boost for Jose Mourinho & co., considering that Rodrygo is a valuable player for the team.
Even though he had endured a tough spell prior to his form, the Brazilian’s versatility, work rate off the ball, and eye for a goal make him an asset.
Rodrygo eager to be back at his best
The update from Romano further states that Rodrygo feels very grateful to Real Madrid for all the help and support they have given him during this difficult phase of his career.
As such, the Brazilian international has made it a mission to return to action in the best shape possible and make an impact from the get-go.
The attacker has only recently begun working on the pitch with the ball indicating the significant progress he has made on the road to recovery.
And, if there are no setbacks, Real Madrid could recover one of their ace attackers before the end of the current year.
So far in his career, Rodrygo has made 297 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 71 goals. He has a contract with the club until 2028.
