Real Madrid legend to stay for another year, Florentino Perez has approved renewal

Much has been said about the future of Luka Modric this year. There were initial doubts over the midfielder’s continuity at Santiago Bernabeu, with his current contract at the club expiring at the end of the season.
But in a recent report from Sportske Jutarnij, it has been suggested that Modric is guaranteed to stay at Bernabeu for at least another season. The player has no desire to leave the club just yet, even at the age of 38.
The report further states that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has informed Luka Modric of the club’s desire to keep him at Bernabeu for another season. This means a renewal could soon take place, thus ensuring that the midfielder stays at the club till 2024.
With almost 500 competitive matches to his name, Modric has been a great servant for Real Madrid over the past decade. He has helped the team win five Champions League titles along with three league titles.
Even at the age of 38, Modric has continued to play a key role in the senior squad, with his technical prowess, experience and leadership proving to be essential. The veteran’s presence has also been helpful in the development of youngsters such as Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.
Earlier reports this month claimed that Real Madrid had posed questions over Modric’s involvement in the Croatia national team. But that should not be much of an issue for Los Blancos, as they look to keep the player for one more season.
With Luka Modric’s future sorted, all eyes will shift to Toni Kroos. The German has yet to make a decision on his future and is reportedly waiting for Real Madrid for further clarification over his role at the club next season.

Brazil not giving up on pursuit of Ancelotti: “Haven’t thrown in the towel yet”

Speaking to the media, Brazil Football Confederations (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has claimed that the Selecao have not given up on their pursuit of Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, despite the Italian stating that he will not leave the club.
Brazil have been without a manager since the World Cup in Qatar last year, following which Tite stepped down. The CBF have made Ancelotti their top target and have been pursuing his signing for months but to no avail.
The 63-year-old Italian tactician has, on more than one occasion, made it clear that he will be at Real Madrid next season, with his contract expiring in 2024.
However, CBF president Rodrigues is adamant that Ancelotti’s statements are due to him being cautious as he is under contract at Real Madrid and that the Selecao are not prepared to give up on their quest to appoint him as of yet.
“We made a plan, that ‘Plan A’ is the one you know, Ancelotti, and as they say in the ‘ring’ (boxing), I haven’t thrown in the towel yet,” Rodrigues said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
“Because of contracts, people are cautious,” he added.
Ancelotti, for his part, has repeatedly stated that he does not intend to leave Real Madrid unless he is forced out of the club.
Despite missing out on the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League titles last season, the club continue to back the veteran Italian and are planning for next season with him in charge.
So, despite Rodrigues’ confidence and perseverance, it is extremely unlikely that Ancelotti will be leaving Real Madrid for Brazil this summer.
