The past few months have seen Kylian Mbappe in a constant tug of war between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Neither side was willing to loosen their grip on the player’s future, which led to a period of contradicting reports on a daily basis.

However, the uncertainty has now come to an end. Though the French side offered him a lucrative contract to renew, Mbappe decided against it and now seems set to join Real Madrid.

According to reports from Diario AS (h/t MadridXtra), Los Blancos are set to officially announce the French star’s signing later this month after the finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid themselves play in the finals of the prestigious competition this year, and will face Liverpool in what will be a high voltage clash. The game is scheduled for 28th of May, and one could expect confirmation of the transfer within a week of its completion.

Madrid’s unreal run in the UCL was undoubtedly one of the factors that made Mbappe’s decision easier. The team made stunning comebacks against PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City to secure a berth in the finale.

Mbappe has scored 25 goals and provided 17 assists in 33 Ligue 1 starts this season. He averages two key passes per game and has created 22 big chances.

In the Champions League, the 23-year-old had ten goal contributions in eight games. However, his run in Europe came to a close when Karim Benzema scored a second-half hat-trick to complete his team’s comeback over the Parisiens.

In what is starting to become an alarmingly common occurrence, a set of Barcelona fans were spotted hurling abusive chants towards Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr.

Barça will be facing PSG in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal today in less than an hour and in the lead-up to the game, a section of the Catalans’ supporters were seen chanting “Vinicius, die” on the streets.

It is not the first time this has happened, with Vinicius being constantly targeted by not only Barcelona fans but supporters of a number of other La Liga clubs.

In fact, last month, Barcelona fans were seen hurling the same chants before their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Napoli.

The same had happened outside Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic prior to the Clasico in October last year.

Moreover, this past weekend, a Mallorca fan at Son Moix directed racist abuse towards Vinicius’ Real Madrid teammate, Aurelien Tchouameni.

It is shocking and embarrassing that these incidents continue to occur. It remains to be seen if any action is taken by the concerned authorities against those involved.
