Real Madrid’s ‘good luck charm’ to travel with team for Champions League final

Real Madrid’s 99-point La Liga dream may have ended with just 95 points – which is still an insane achievement -, but the team’s entire focus in the last month has been the Champions League final.

Madrid will take on Borussia Dortmund at Wembley for the final on 1st June hoping to lift their 15th UCL.

Ahead of the game, a lot has been made of the starting lineup Carlo Ancelotti will deploy, especially with Aurelien Tchouameni’s fitness in doubt. The Frenchman is expected to travel with the team regardless and could start the game if deemed fit enough on the day of.

Madrid are still unbeaten with Tchouameni starting for them over the course of the last two seasons, but he is not the only ‘good luck charm’ the team have.

Jeremy the lucky charm

According to a report published by MARCA, Real Madrid will travel with a full plane to Wembley for the final, with all of the first-team travelling.

Alongside them, Castilla starlet Jeremy de Leon will also be on the flight with the team. While the 20-year-old right-winger has not played any minutes for the senior squad yet, he has been called up multiple times this season.

He is considered the squad’s ‘lucky charm’, and therefore, will be a part of the travelling team to London.

Mario Martin is also expected to be on this plane after receiving minutes against Villarreal and Deportivo Alaves across the last few gameweeks.

Who will start?

The only doubt for this game is Aurelien Tchouameni’s participation. Should be declared fit for the final, there is little to no doubt that he will start as the defensive midfielder.

If not, Ancelotti will likely retain Eduardo Camavinga for that position, with Toni Kroos to his left and Federico Valverde to his right, playing behind Jude Bellingham.

There are also 50/50 shouts in the centre-back position and in goal, as Eder Militao is challenging Antonio Rudiger and Nacho for a place, while Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin contest for the gloves.

Real Madrid interested in €60 million-rated Tottenham defender

Real Madrid are looking for defensive reinforcements in the summer amid question marks over the continuity of captain Nacho Fernandez.

Leny Yoro of Lille has been the top target, with the teenager’s contract with the French club expiring in a year.

However, Lille’s transfer demands are making the possibility of a transfer difficult, which has seemingly prompted Los Blancos to look for alternatives.

Cristian Romero on the radars

Now, ESPN Argentina reports that Real Madrid are interested in Tottenham Hotspur defender and vice-captain Cristian Romero heading into the summer.

In fact, it is even claimed that the reigning champions of Spain and Europe have already asked about the 25-year-old World Cup winner.

Romero has been with Tottenham since 2021, having initially arrived on loan from Atalanta before the move was made permanent a year later.

The 25-year-old has been a regular fixture in the lineup for the Lilywhites and was even made vice-captain last season by manager Ange Postecoglou.

The centre-half was also a part of the Argentina squad that won the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Romero’s contract with Tottenham runs until the summer of 2027. Considering how important he is to the team and the duration of his contract, Spurs will demand a hefty sum for him if Real Madrid do make an approach.

Given the Merengues’ reluctance to splash big bucks especially with funds being set aside for Alphonso Davies as well, any move for Romero this summer appears extremely unlikely.
