Ancelotti’s name comes up in discussions over new Chelsea manager – English sources

Real Madrid and Chelsea face off twice this month in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. Leading up to the game, the Premier League giants are in a state of managerial crisis.
The London-based side sacked Thomas Tuchel for Graham Potter earlier in the season in the hope of a long-term and sustainable project. However, they parted ways with the former Brighton manager earlier this week after a disastrous time together and are currently without a coach.
Real Madrid have also found themselves linked with various candidates to take over in the summer. However, their situation across competitions is not remotely close to that of Chelsea.
Carlo Ancelotti is well-placed to depart Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season. It seems like the club administration wishes for a rejuvenation of ideas and is seriously considering Mauricio Pochettino as an option to take over.
According to reports from Matt Law of the Telegraph, Ancelotti’s name has ironically been mentioned at Chelsea. However, it is not clear if he is in the running to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Though his appointment in London is not an obnoxious idea, the chances appear to be slim. The Italian tactician has repeatedly stated that he does not wish to leave Real Madrid until his contract expires next year.
Even if he is shown the doors at the end of the season, the 63-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Brazilian national team and it would come as a surprise if his move to the Selecao did not go through once he leaves the club.
Moreover, it has been reported that Chelsea wish to make a new appointment before the UCL clash against Real Madrid. In such a case, Ancelotti would not even stand eligible as a candidate.
With the Premier League side in such a mess, Los Blancos will look to take a dominant lead at the Santiago Bernabeu next week while uncertainty prevails in London. A place in the semi-final may thus be closer than it appears.

Brazil not giving up on pursuit of Ancelotti: “Haven’t thrown in the towel yet”

Speaking to the media, Brazil Football Confederations (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has claimed that the Selecao have not given up on their pursuit of Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, despite the Italian stating that he will not leave the club.
Brazil have been without a manager since the World Cup in Qatar last year, following which Tite stepped down. The CBF have made Ancelotti their top target and have been pursuing his signing for months but to no avail.
The 63-year-old Italian tactician has, on more than one occasion, made it clear that he will be at Real Madrid next season, with his contract expiring in 2024.
However, CBF president Rodrigues is adamant that Ancelotti’s statements are due to him being cautious as he is under contract at Real Madrid and that the Selecao are not prepared to give up on their quest to appoint him as of yet.
“We made a plan, that ‘Plan A’ is the one you know, Ancelotti, and as they say in the ‘ring’ (boxing), I haven’t thrown in the towel yet,” Rodrigues said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
“Because of contracts, people are cautious,” he added.
Ancelotti, for his part, has repeatedly stated that he does not intend to leave Real Madrid unless he is forced out of the club.
Despite missing out on the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League titles last season, the club continue to back the veteran Italian and are planning for next season with him in charge.
So, despite Rodrigues’ confidence and perseverance, it is extremely unlikely that Ancelotti will be leaving Real Madrid for Brazil this summer.
