Florentino Perez has already sent Real Madrid supporters into a frenzy after promising the arrival of a new Galactico worth around €150 million this summer. 

While several names have been mentioned in recent weeks, the growing belief in Spain is that the mystery signing could be Michael Olise.

The French winger has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football, combining flair, creativity and end product in a way that naturally attracts Real Madrid’s attention. 

At first glance, the move appears to make perfect sense, as Olise has the talent, the age profile and the star potential to become the latest headline signing at the Santiago Bernabéu.

However, Real Madrid’s transfer strategy cannot be driven by excitement alone. 

The club’s recent success has been built on smart planning, squad balance and investing in areas of genuine need rather than simply chasing the biggest names available. 

While Olise would undoubtedly add quality to the squad, there is a strong argument that committing €150 million to sign him would be a mistake.

Here are three reasons why Real Madrid should think twice before investing such a huge sum in Michael Olise.

Real Madrid have players to solve the problem

One of the biggest mistakes clubs make in the transfer market is buying players to solve problems that do not really exist.

Real Madrid’s attack is already packed with quality, with Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz, Franco Mastantuono and Arda Guler giving the squad a variety of options across the front line. 

The reality is that Olise would arrive in a squad where minutes are already difficult to guarantee, and that immediately creates a challenge for both the player and the club.

Rodrygo, in particular, remains a major reason why Real Madrid should be cautious. 

Despite constant speculation surrounding his future and his troubled injury record, the Brazilian has delivered in crucial matches and continues to be one of the most complete attacking players in the squad. 

Replacing or marginalising him for an expensive new signing could prove short-sighted.

There is also the question of development, as Real Madrid have spent years building a project based on young talent. 

Players such as Guler and Mastantuono need opportunities to grow, and blocking that pathway with another superstar signing could hurt the club’s long-term planning.

A €150 million transfer makes little financial sense

There was a time when Real Madrid built entire transfer windows around Galactico signings. Modern football, however, has changed.

Even the wealthiest clubs must be careful about where they allocate resources, and reports linking Olise with a potential €150 million valuation should immediately raise concerns.

That figure is not only expensive, it places enormous pressure on the player to deliver from day one.

For that kind of money, Real Madrid should be signing someone who fills a clear weakness in the squad or dramatically improves the starting XI. 

Olise is an excellent footballer, not doubt, but it is difficult to argue that he solves a major problem currently facing the team.

There is also the adaptation factor. Success in one environment does not automatically guarantee success at Real Madrid. 

The pressure of playing at the Santiago Bernabeu is unique and Kylian Mbappe has learned that the hard way. Every touch, every performance and every result is analysed under a microscope.

A player who costs €150 million will be expected to become a superstar immediately, and that level of expectation carries significant risk, no matter how talented the player may be.

Strengthening the midfield should be the priority

If Real Madrid truly have a huge budget available this summer, there is a stronger argument for investing it elsewhere.

The squad’s biggest challenge is not a lack of attacking quality. Rather, it is maintaining balance throughout the team.

While the attack possesses enough firepower to compete with anyone in Europe, there have been moments when the midfield has lacked control, physicality and defensive protection. 

The departure of key figures in recent years has changed the dynamic of the team, and replacing those qualities should arguably be a bigger priority than signing another winger.

A dominant midfielder capable of controlling matches would improve every area of the side, providing greater protection for the defence while also allowing players like Mbappe and Vinicius to operate with more freedom.

That type of signing addresses a genuine sporting need.

Michael Olise is a fantastic player and could become one of the best attackers in world football. 

However, successful transfer windows are not about collecting the most talented names available. They are about building the most balanced squad possible.
